Our mission is Building sustainable, resilient lives and neighborhoods from the inside out.
Started in 2018, Build it Green (BIG) prepares young adults with untapped potential for careers in construction & energy service through a 6 month - 1 year workforce development training program.
Through a partnership between green|spaces and AmeriCorps Opportunity Youth Service Initiative, BIG aims to generate pathways out of poverty for young adults through job readiness training, community organizing and outreach training, and technical training in the green building field.
Affordability of utilities is one of the greatest challenges to low income neighborhoods in Chattanooga. This program brings solutions to issues of energy efficiency in low income areas as well as a pipeline for employment into the green economy. BIG utilizes a unique blend of community outreach, personal development, and technical training to create workforce ready young adults.
BIG participants will gain the following from the program:
Community engagement/personal development/job readiness training
Technical training in weatherization and community sustainability
6 month and 1 year opportunities available
Paid living allowance
Educational Award with successful completion of hours - $3000 - $6000 depending on service
OSHA 10 and other industry certifications
Job placement assistance
GED education support
Health Insurance and childcare available for full-time positions
Participants must be between 18 and 24 years old, and a US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States, or possess approved work visa.
