Stormwater Control Measure and Inspection Certification

Stormwater is an ever growing discipline as we discover new and better ways to treat and control stormwater runoff. With the development and installation of new Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs) across Tennessee, the need and opportunity has arisen for growing a set of professionals who are able to both inspect and maintain these SCMs. The TN Dept of Environment and Conservation has partnered with the University of TN to establish the TN Stormwater Management Training program. Each year the program offers classes around the state to help train this new SCM workforce. Through the engaging teaching of Dr. Jon Hathaway, P.E., University of Tennessee, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Bill Lord, University of Tennessee, Water Resources Research Center, attendees learn the necessary skills for SCM management. Additionally, the City of Chattanooga’s stormwater ordinance requires all SCM inspectors to be certified (Sec. 31-314). Part of this certification is successful completion of the State’s SCM Training course. All inspectors who sign a quarterly inspection form must include their certification number from this SCM Training course.
