October Lunch and Learn: The Walnut Street Bridge - Bridging Safety and Community Impact

  • green|spaces 63 East Main Street Chattanooga, TN 37408 United States (map)

The Walnut Street Bridge is one of the world’s longest pedestrian bridges and is a highly trafficked avenue for active transportation in Chattanooga. It is expected to close for extensive preventive structural repairs and maintenance. A needs assessment was conducted to understand the potential impact on physical activity, identify alternative active transportation corridors, and assess safety concerns of displaced bicycle and pedestrian foot traffic during the closure.

Please join us on Wednesday, October 11th at green|spaces to learn how the Chattanooga Area Regional Authority (CARTA) and The City of Chattanooga plan to address the needs for maintenance on the bridge and how they will resolve the displaced pedestrians and cyclists during the closure.

Savannah Ward is the Community Outreach Coordinator with CARTA and a second-year graduate student in UTC's Master of Public Health program.
